TVP Meat Balls

TVP Granules

For the TVP meatballs:

  • 1 cup TVP granules
  • 1 cup vegetable broth or water
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce or tamari
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • flakes (adjust to taste)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (regular or gluten-free)
  • 1/4 cup nutritional yeast (optional, for added flavor)
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

For cooking and serving:

Tomato sauce of your choice
Cooked pasta or grain of your choice
Chopped fresh basil or parsley (for garnish)
Vegan parmesan cheese (optional, for serving)

Prepare the TVP:

In a bowl, combine the TVP granules, vegetable broth or water, soy sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, dried basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Mix well and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes to rehydrate and absorb the flavors.
Mix the Meatball Ingredients:

To the rehydrated TVP mixture, add the breadcrumbs, nutritional yeast (if using), and tomato paste. Mix well to combine the ingredients evenly.
Shape the Meatballs:

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Take a portion of the TVP mixture and roll it into a ball, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. Repeat with the remaining mixture.
Place the meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake the Meatballs:

Lightly brush the meatballs with olive oil to help them brown in the oven.
Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until the meatballs are firm and golden brown.
Heat the Tomato Sauce:

While the meatballs are baking, heat your preferred tomato sauce in a saucepan.
Combine and Serve:

Once the meatballs are done, gently add them to the heated tomato sauce and let them simmer for a few minutes to absorb the flavors.

Serve the TVP meatballs and tomato sauce over cooked pasta or your choice of grains.
Garnish with chopped fresh basil or parsley and vegan parmesan cheese, if desired.
Enjoy your delicious TVP meatballs in your favorite dishes! This recipe is versatile, so feel free to adjust the seasonings and ingredients to suit your taste preferences.
