Heritage Store presses roasted Ricinus communis (castor) seeds using a traditional African method that gives the oil its characteristic dark color, and says the process leaves the oil naturally rich in ricinoleic fatty acids.
The brand recommends massaging it into the scalp and roots and leaving it on for 20 minutes or overnight before washing, or applying it to dry areas of skin as a conditioning treatment; a mascara spoolie is suggested for brow application.
It's cold-pressed and hexane-free, and the brand lists it as dermatologically tested, hypoallergenic, vegan, and cruelty-free.
